My Husband passed away Oct 2005 we both had a bank account in joint names in Turkey with 14000 GBP I have spent 3000 GBP in legal costs trying ton get this money back into my account in uk using three soliciters still have had no sucess I have now been informed I will have to pay inheritance tax on this amount does the amount I have paid to try and get my money back not be taken into consideration

I am an architect living in Bethesda, Maryland. I have been investigating my family tree and just found out some interesting facts about my Great Grandfather who was an imam in Trabzon. If you are familiar with any of these names or places, I would be very happy to hear from you!

My father’s mother’s (Lutfiye Hanim’s) father was named Mufti Karahasanoglu Mehmed Ali Efendi. A certified Imam and Teacher Mufti Karahasanoglu Mehmed Ali Efendi is the son of (also Certified Imam and Teacher) Haci Osman Efendi, and was born in
1851 (A.H. 1267) in the Khacavera Village of Macka Township of Trabzon.

At first he started his education with his father. Later upon his
father’s death, in 1866 (A.H. 1282) he started studying with Muderris Kolezade Haci Suleyman Efendi at Khatuinyye Medrese in Trabzon.

Later, in 1868 (A.H. 1284), upon this teacher’s death he went to Of (name of a town) and started taking lessons with Muderris Velizade Haci Osman Efendi at Khos,pera-i Ulya (Upper Khos,pera) Medrese.

In 1874 (A.H. 1290) he received a diploma from a gentleman and in 1899 (A.H. 1307) he went to Istanbul and passed an examination in front of “Seyhul-Islamlik Ders Vekaleti” and was certified/permitted to preach at Bayezid Mosque and Yeni Mosque.

Mehmed Ali Efendi remained in Istanbul until 1908 (A.H. 1324). That year, he got sick and went back to his hometown and continued performing as an imam (leader of prayer). At that point the muftu position of Macka township became vacant and Mehmed Ali Efendi was deemed to be worthy for this position and on ______ __, 1911 (A.H. 27th Temmuz 1327) he was appointed Macka Township Muftu. In 1914 (A.H. 12 Kanunuevvel [December]1330) he died while still in this position.
